juggle

keep them in the air

20 HP

A video module your drums play, two bodies in the air at once. Hits close together keep a body up, a juggle; a gap leaves it where it is. Nothing clears, so over a track the screen fills with bodies. Each body's height and every body left come out as CVs; the picture is composite.

The JUGGLE panel: black, covered in small gold figures flung through the air at every angle, mirrored about the middle, with a gauge of short bare circuit-board rungs on each side between the columns of parts. ONE and TWO jacks at the top corners with their lit buttons under them, a card slot under the name, CLEAR's black button and jack and the DROP jack down the middle above a yellow RCA socket, WHO, HEIGHT and CV jacks in the columns either side, and HANG, STICK, FLICKER, SPREAD, COLOUR and BREAK knobs down the sides. juggle at the top, daylight noise at the bottom.

Turn a knob: drag it or tap either side of it, roll the wheel over it or use the arrow keys; a double click puts it back. ONE, TWO and CLEAR are buttons: press ONE or TWO to throw that player's body, or knock it up again; CLEAR wipes the wall. The patches step on by themselves until you touch anything.

JUGGLE makes no sound: you hear the rack's drums, made in the page, and in some patches its outs playing them. The picture moves before you listen too.

The bodies, the wall and the lights are JUGGLE's engine as designed, running in your browser; the drums stand in for a rack.
